QR Code Size: What Really Matters When Printing
The right QR code size depends mainly on scan distance and pattern density. That's why a practical test with the final medium matters more than a generic centimeter figure.
Why There's No Universal Size
A code on a business card is scanned from close range, a poster from farther away. On top of that, data amount, error correction, a logo, and print quality all affect the required size.
Scan Distance and Module Size
With greater distance, individual modules must remain sufficiently clear on the output. Scan distance can serve as an initial guide for planning the output, but suitability still needs to be tested.
Data Amount and Error Correction
More content creates a denser pattern. Higher error correction can help with damage, but it reduces usable capacity and can also make the pattern denser.
Practical Testing
Print a realistic test strip and try it from the intended distance under normal lighting. Also test small changes to layout, paper, and contrast.
